The Foxtrot tour
A ticket for the show at The University of York, Central Hall, York, England on the 21st February 1973
(MANY MANY Thanks to Andy Spofforth for this Foxtrot tour ticket)
Note: Andy got to meet the band after the show along with three other mates, during this meeting backstage Peter Gabriel signed Andy’s ticket!
From Andy’s own words ” It was a stunning night, and myself and 3 friends ended up backstage, being asked by a kind and trusting roadie to count his wages in pound notes! He gave me it,asked me to count it (there should have been £25) and there was only £24!! He went off to see the tour manager, sorted the shortage, then came back and took us up to meet the band who were all really friendly and signed autographs. I suspect my friends have the remainder but have long lost touch 🙁
I Had seen the band the previous year at York Theatre Royal as part of the Charisma tour with String Driven Thing and Capability Brown (sadly my ticket seems to have gone) – once again an amazing gig and the start of me being a fan. I was a 16 year old engineering apprentice at the time on £8 a week so to be handed the equivalent of 3 weeks dosh and be asked to count it was a surprise to say the least!!
As I said it was a stunning gig in a purpose built concert hall (usually used for classical concerts, hence the “NO SMOKING NO DANCING” emblazoned on the ticket – It did mean that the sound was superb though, maybe they should have recorded that night for Genesis – Live”
MANY thanks to Andy for the recollection.
