This was released on VHS and DVD, the DVD contains extra footage from the Documentary.
The Genesis Songbook, a documentary filmed mainly during the year 2000 whilst Tony, Mike and Phil were on the run up to the promotion for the Archive 2 boxset which was released in September 2000.
Whilst the documentary is interesting in places it also suffers from being too short and not in depth enough, Phil, Tony, Mike stick to well trotted out stories and audition stories which are no different than the ones told to the viewers of the 1991 Genesis documentary Genesis A History!
Steve Hackett provides further information about his entry into the group, Ray Wilson provides further information about his entry into the group.
Bill Bruford is interviewed which is quite interesting as is Chester Thompson and Daryl Stuermer!
Hit and Run now known as Tony Smith Personnel Management choose Alan Hewitt to appear on the documentary even though there are hundreds of other people who know enough about the group to appear on a documentary.
Some Albums and tours are completely over looked which is unforgivable….
Excellent footage of Phil, Tony and Mike in the control room at Fisher Lane Farm performing unplugged versions of some Genesis songs perhaps for rehearsal for the Music Managers Forum where later in 2000 Tony Smith was awarded the Peter Grant award for Management.
The Documentary needed to be about 3 hours longer and to have made further use of archival footage than it did so.
