Posted on Facebook by Ed Newsom in The Granary Facebook page, “On this day, Feb 22nd, 50 years ago in 1971 the boys at Plastic Dog had pulled off another coup and booked Genesis to appear at the Granary. They were paid the princely sum of £50 plus a percentage of the door take. Supporting them on the night was Bucephalus, who was paid just £17.50. A week earlier and it would have been £17 and 10 shillings, as decimal currency was introduced in the UK on Feb 15th 1971. Genesis’ line-up that night was Peter Gabriel (vocals), Phil Collins (drums), Steve Hackett (guitar), Tony Banks (keyboards), and Mike Rutherford (guitar/bass). At the time of their one and only gig at the Granary, they had released their 2nd album Trespass. They would start recording their 3rd album, Nursery Cryme, later the same year.
