Ronnie Scott’s Club – London, England Brand X played a two week stint at Ronnie Scott’s club in August/September 1976 (possibly 30.8.76 to the 11.9.76).
Andy Ward of Camel guested on percussion on 20.2.1976. Due to a cramped stage, he twice accidentally knocked his cymbal into Phil’s area below, once hitting Phil himself, the other “demolished half his drumkit, and this time the band had to stop playing altogether while things were put right…I was never asked to play with them again.” ~ Andy Ward
A concert attendee at the Manchester Free Trade Hall gig recollects
“I attended the Brand X show at Manchester Free Trade Hall. I was particularly thrilled as it was the first time that I had managed to get tickets to see any member of Genesis perform live. I purchased a ticket for the circle and as the venue was pretty empty (I’d estimate no more 600 or 700 people in a hall holding 2,000), I was able to take the seat that was almost directly above Phil’s drumkit. I was the only person sat in that part of the hall and I think that at times Phil seems a little uneasy with this obsessive fan watching his every move. I remember very little about the music (not being a great fan of jazz-rock), but I did find Phil’s performance completely enthralling. Brand X were actually supporting Larry Coryell that evening. I’d never heard of him, but I came away from the show being much more impressed with Larry’s music than with the quirky Brand X.
