I Know What I Like – Twilight Alehouse

I Know What I Like was the only single from the eagerly awaited album Selling England By The Pound..

I Know What I Like was released on the 6th April 1974 reaching number 21 in the UK charts and staying in the charts for 7 weeks.

Side A

I Know What I Like

Side B

Twilight Alehouse (non album track)

Released on Charisma Records (CB 224)

Produced by John Burns and Genesis

Notes: This single was released twice before according to various reports in August 1973 and again in October 1973, but we have used the UK Official chart information listed which is 6th April 1974, there are adverts in the music press dated October 1973 that state “I Know What I Like/Twilight Alehouse” is the latest single, but these adverts are reprised in April 1974.

Further notes: Twilight Alehouse really sounds like a sibling of the song “Stagnation” from the 1970 album Trespass, it has a very similar feel and sound which is complete with similar organ sounds. Genesis had in fact been playing Twilight Alehouse for up to 3 years by the time they recorded it in a studio in 1973.
